20 healthy ways to deal with STRESS

It may seem like there’s nothing you can do about stress. The bills won’t stop coming, there will never be more hours in the day, and your work and family responsibilities will always be demanding. But you have a lot more control than you might think. In fact, the simple realization that you’re in control of the outlook of your life is an awesome way of managing stress. Stress management is all about taking charge: of your lifestyle, thoughts, emotions, and the way you deal with problems. No matter how stressful your life seems, there are steps you can take to relieve the pressure and regain control. This is one thing that Darren & I strive to do -- no matter our circumstance - and we've been thru A LOT!!!! - from LIVING with cancer to teenage years...

If you’re living with high levels of stress, you’re putting your entire well-being at risk. Stress wreaks havoc on your emotional balance, as well as your physical health. It narrows your ability to think clearly, function effectively, and enjoy life. So, no matter what we are faced with, Darren & I remember to do a few things DAILY from this list:
20 Healthy Ways To Deal With Stress
.
1. Start waking up earlier.
2. Prepare for the morning the night before.
3. Say "no" more often.πŸ‘ŽπŸ»
4. Evaluate your priorities.

5. Fix or abandon toxic relationships.πŸ™ŒπŸ»
6. Manage your time well.πŸ—“
7. Focus on what you can control.
8. Find opportunities in life's challenges.
9. Read a book.πŸ“–
10. Talk to someone you trust.πŸ‘―
11. Write in a journal.✍🏻
12. Make time for exercise.πŸ‘Ÿ
13. Cook a healthy meal.🍏
14. Pursue a passion project.
15. Be kind to people around you.
16. Take breaks from social media.πŸ“±
17. Let go of the past.
18. Keep an agenda/planner.πŸ““
19. Check your agenda often.✔️
20. Smile!πŸ˜ƒ

What would you add? How do you manage your stress?? I'd love to hear your favorite stress relieving technique! Message me today!

Let's kick some πŸ’©....

#ThrowbackThursday goes to this guy!! Ummm.. 11 days after brain surgery... I think he’s looking pretty good!! Don’t ya think??
.
His attitude remains as positive as always!! We know we have quite the fight in front of us, but we’re not scared!! And like Darren said in our new podcast episode, that if he didn’t have these bad times he wouldn’t understand how to appreciate the good!! ❤️❤️❤️

As far as surgery goes, we are out of the woods! πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ» And though we may still have a long road ahead of us, that’s never stopped us before!

For those of you who know us, you know Darren and I are ready to take on any challenge head on [no pun intended]πŸ’πŸΌ‍♀️πŸ’― But this one has been a tough one... I spend every day trying to inspire people around me with my words and actions. Right now, I’m struggling with inspiration myself. In times of uncertainty, fear, exhaustion, and stress, it’s easy to fall back into old habits and unhealthy choices. This is real  and it’s not easy!

Nutrition is KEY for so many things - and I am learning so much about nutrition and cancer...  Darren & I are going to be tweaking our diet and getting ready to feed our bodies with the best tools to fight this diagnosis and to feel amazing during treatment.  I plan on sharing what I am learning and helping others to fuel their body in the best way starting April 1st.  Interested in joining us in this journey?  Message me TODAY for details and I can get you plugged in!

Let's talk FOOD πŸŽπŸ•πŸ³πŸ”πŸ₯—

Counting calories, tracking macros, portion control containers, low carb, no carb, carb cycling, timed nutrition, and allllllllll the fad diets in between…#beenthere πŸ™‹πŸ»‍♀️ . You too?
Ever given one, two, or maybe all of these a try? And if you have, maybe one of these strategies work for you. Maybe it was exactly what you needed for REAL, long-lasting results.
Or maybe not. If you are still looking for the easiest and extremely effective nutrition guide.....look no further.

WAIIIIT....hold up.  Stop the presses.  Hold the phone.  huh?

Is this just another fad diet?

Actually…it’s quite the opposite.

Let’s get real for a minute.
What happens with diets when it’s all focused around restriction?
You often pass on experiences, celebrations, events, and things you truly enjoy. Or you say…hey, life is too short to miss out on these things and you indulge, enjoy but then you don’t get back “on track” with the plan. It's hard to get back on the wagon.
We’ve all been there, right ladies???
So let me ask you this…
What’s your goal?
Is your goal to create a healthy lifestyle, lose weight, and be confident and happy with your food choices?
If yes, then your goals are already in motion to start the lifestyle that will change your life forever.
The Ultimate Portion Fix takes out the guesswork and teaches you a system that can be used day after day. Over time, you will see what works for you and your body.
I honestly believe, it comes down to structure. If you thrive or succeed from structure or if you prefer to have a more “laid-back” approach to your nutrition.
For some, they need to have containers, a calculation, or a number goal to hit each day.
For others, removing structure and learning and applying easy-to-follow principles and healthy habits is exactly what they need to remove the stress they often feel with plans centered around calories, macros, or portion containers.
Is this plan magic? I hate to break it to you, but there is NO SUCH THING.
But, there is some magic that happens when a group of empowering #girlieboss #FitnessJunkies come together forming a community to support one another every step of the journey.
Team Fitness Junkies will bring you a community, or VIRTUAL GYM, where we are team up to bring you the best of the best when it comes to an online space for support and resources. We check in and post ideas every single day to keep you excited about this process.
That’s what it is…a process.
There’s no such thing as an overnight fix.
If you’re ready to explore more Ultimate Portion Fix and if the program and it’s long-term focused principles will best serve you, JOIN US. Message me TODAY!

Not your typical I*N*S*P*I*R*A*T*I*O*N post....

If you follow me on social media, you know that it's been a tough few weeks.  Darren, my husband, has been fighting and WINNING his brain cancer for several years. Unfortunately, we did get some not so great news recently and made the decision for a 3rd brain surgery this past Friday.  If you know us, you know we are ready to take on any challenge head on [no pun intended]πŸ’πŸΌ‍♀️πŸ’― But this one has been a tough one... I spend every day trying to inspire people around me with my words and actions. Right now, I’m struggling with inspiration myself. In times of uncertainty, fear, exhaustion, and stress, it’s easy to fall back into old habits and unhealthy choices. This is real ➰ and it’s not easy!
.
But thank God for my sister, mom and dad who are here with us❤️ .  They have been the biggest support and keeping my sanity in check. They’ve kept me accountable in following all of Darren’s advice:
1) Laugh out loud every day✔️
2) Take walks, get outside✔️
3) And don’t believe the prognosis✔️
And I’m adding a 4th.. get control of my emotional eating😳! Starting that today!  And, if you are under stress or simply just READY to control your eating/nutrition for whatever reason - PLEASE message me on Facebook as I have a clean eating group going NOW and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have you join me & hold each other accountable as we get our nutrition back in check!  Message me HERE.

Five years ago Darren said, “I live every day of my life without regret and I treat every day like it’s the best day of my life.”
.
That’s what we’re doing today, and that’s what we’re going to keep doing tomorrow and all the days ahead of us❤️πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Update on Darren #BrainCancer

Unfortunately we all go through some difficult times in our life...from cancer diagnosis to struggles in relationships to financial hardships -- difficult times happen.  As you may know, Darren was diagnosed in 2011 with brain cancer. His positive attitude has helped us both BIG time in this hardship. His recent MRI did show changes and we are facing another branch of difficulties with this news. We know that we are not alone in hardships - and we hope that you, too, know that YOU are not alone in your struggles (whatever they may be).

Our goal is that in this podcast, we not only share our story a bit, but hope that our favorite tips can inspire YOU to stay sane.

FYI, we’ll be heading out (at the time this is being typed) TODAY to MD Anderson. They will be doing a bunch of crazy testing on Wednesday and Thursday. Brain surgery is schedule for Friday, March 1st, in the brain suite. Which is a massive surgical room with an MRI In it. They are planning on an awake surgery, which means that during the 4 to 6 hour surgery, they will wake him up for a few hours to talk to him and ask questions to make sure they’re not hitting any critical areas. As always he’s remaining so positive!!

Sisters from another mister!

Do you have a bestie who just gets you? And I mean, really deep down understand who you are at your very core?
Please meet Mindy Lawhorn - she is my sister from another mister. We may physically live far apart but emotionally, she is my next door neighbor. We met thru our love of fitness but as we spent time together - we quickly realized how parallel our lives are.
Listen, if you are like me -- the older I get, the less tolerance I have for bullshit and drama. I just don’t have the time or energy for it. When it comes to making new friends, I appreciate full-transparency from the get-go. Things get complicated when you try to present yourself as something you aren’t. It all comes out eventually, so don’t try to pretend. People will love you for you, and if they don’t, those aren’t your people.
If  adulthood and my life's journey has taught me anything, it’s that we already have enough to worry about. Trying to navigate a complex friendship is just not something I’m interested in, because literally everything else is more important than your drama, Linda. And also, friendships shouldn’t be complex or require navigation in the first place. If they do, you are probably forcing something that isn’t meant to be.
True friends fit into your life with ease. They are like family, really. If there are unintentional upsets or hurt feelings, you work through them and move on. My closest friends are like sisters - we don’t expect perfection from each other, because no one is perfect. We allow grace for one another, and we apologize when we need to.
My close friends are sassy and sarcastic, and OMG, do they make me laugh! That’s our thing—we like to laugh, and we don’t do drama.
So what is my life journey that is so parallel with Mindy?  Well, both our husbands have cancer - and they married us as single mom's & they loved our children from the beginning.  We are both going thru quite a bit right now with our husband's cancer journey but  we both chose to never quit, to never stop praying, to keep laughing and to not let this season of life distract us from all the good.
We just did a podcast on our drama-free friendship - and why that is so important. We dive deeper into our husband's bromance & their cancer, and how our lives are intertwined. Take a listen HERE.
